VIEUX CARRE
The Vieux Carré (pronounced in the Cajun and Creole-style “vyur kaa ray”) is a classic cocktail straight from 1930s. The Vieux Carré is a slightly sweet, spiced, and warming drink with herbal, citrus, and smoky notes. It’s similar to a Manhattan but more complex thanks to the cognac and two kinds of bitters.
- ¾ oz Coalition whiskey
- ¾ oz cognac
- ¾ oz sweet vermouth
- 1 to 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 to 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
- 1/2 oz Bénédictine liqueur
- Cherry or lemon twist, garnish
Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry and lemon twist.
