Rye Whiskey

Kentucky Artisan Distillery

Rye Whiskey is known as the first true American spirit. Its popularity has gone through its ups and downs over time, but it is currently living its fully deserved renaissance.

Rye whiskey is rather complex at its best, with spicy rather than sweet taste, which made it a favorite with bartenders and gourmands.

Coalition Whiskey is handcrafted at Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood, KY under the watchful eye of 40-year whiskey veteran Steve Thompson. He lovingly controls every step of the process from selecting the grain to the traditional maturation in American oak casks. Jade Peterson is a Master Distiller working closely with Steve – young and already highly reputable specialist who defined Coalition Whiskey style and character in many important ways. For creating Coalition, Jade utilized the time-honored, handcrafting techniques, including zero automation and an all-copper pot still dating back to pre-Prohibition.

The precious rye grain that becomes our whiskey is harvested less than a mile away at the historic Waldeck Farm. The variety is Ryman rye, which has a pronounced flavor and is well suited to the climate of Kentucky.

While most Rye Whiskies include malted barley or added corn, Coalition Whiskey is made entirely from rye. Most Kentucky farmers prefer to grow corn, which is less labor-intensive and yields a higher dollar per acre. A 100% Rye Whiskey is a more expensive way to go, but there was no other way to create that intense, rich, and spicy flavor that would be the ideal match for the velvety Bordeaux wine barrel finishing.
