Kentucky Artisan Distillery
Coalition Rye Whiskey and Bourbon are handcrafted at Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood, KY under the watchful eye of Jade Peterson, a Master Distiller – young and already highly reputable specialist who defined Coalition Whiskey style and character in many important ways.
For creating Coalition, Jade utilized the time-honored, handcrafting techniques, including zero automation and an all-copper pot still dating back to pre-Prohibition.
The precious rye grain that becomes our whiskey is harvested less than a mile away at the historic Waldeck Farm. The variety is Ryman rye, which has a pronounced flavor and is well suited to the climate of Kentucky.
While most Rye Whiskies include malted barley or added corn, Coalition Whiskey is made entirely from rye. Most Kentucky farmers prefer to grow corn, which is less labor-intensive and yields a higher dollar per acre. A 100% Rye Whiskey is a more expensive way to go, but there was no other way to create that intense, rich, and spicy flavor that would be the ideal match for the velvety Bordeaux wine barrel finishing.
